NO MORE AUTOMATIC EAD EXTENSIONS

Starting Oct. 30, 2025, USCIS will no longer issue 540 day extensions to people who apply to renew their work permit before their current card expires.  There will be NO extension beyond a work permit's stated expiration date.  Here is USCIS's official announcement.


Please read the below CAREFULLY to see if you may need to take action.    


You MAY need to take action if (in the form of filing a renewal application)

- You have a work permit, AND

- Your current work permit expires BEFORE Sept. 30, 2026, AND 

- You have not ALREADY applied to renew your work permit. 


You MAY NOT need to take action at this time if: 

- Your work permit expires AFTER May 30, 2026 (but you SHOULD consider applying to renew it 8 months before the expiration date) 

- You have asylum, whether or not you already have a work permit through your asylum status 

- You have a green card already  


If you have not applied to renew your most recent work permit already, you should think about trying do so today, online (Oct. 29, 2025). 


EAD renewal applications can be submitted online.
