Shantal graduated from Brown University in 2023 with degrees in International & Public Affairs and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. She completed a Fulbright Fellowship in Costa Rica in 2023-2024 focusing on the immigrant experience in Central America. She plans on attending law school in the future. Sheyla Aguilar
Paralegal
Sheyla holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Johnson & Wales University. Most recently, she contributed to the legal services team at Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) in both the Boston and New York City offices, where she supported unaccompanied migrant children—both those released and those in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).

Prior to her time at KIND, Sheyla developed a strong foundation in immigration law as a legal assistant at Santelises Law in Providence, RI. It was there that she discovered her deep passion for advocating on behalf of immigrant communities and helping individuals navigate the complexities of the U.S. immigration system. At McHaffey & Nice, she brings her dedication, compassion, and legal experience to continue her mission of serving and empowering immigrant communities.

She has worked in the nonprofit sector with families experiencing housing insecurity and has supported survivors of sexual assault and abuse.
